To register download your brochure here or simply call 612-871-8101. Upper Minnetonka Sailing School is excited about christening its all new adult sailing program. Starting in early summer 2008 three programs will be offered for adult and teen (age 16+). All of these offerings are extremely personalized to the needs of the individual students. “Learn to Sail” is the core program. Students will meet on Enchanted Island to board stable, dry 23’ Ensign or Catalina sailboats. Class size is limited to 3 students per boat with an onboard instructor. At the end of the course, students will be able to sail by themselves comfortably, and will be invited to crew in an Upper Minnetonka Yacht Club race. The 12-hour class, which meets over the course of 4 days, will be offered June through September weekends or weeknights. Schedules provide a verity of options and flexibility that fit even your schedule. Led by Captain Joan Gilmore, all instructors are friendly, knowledgeable and experienced sailors that will make you feel right at home on the water. All instructors are American Sailing Association certified, with current first aid and CPR skills. If two or more people sign-up together they receive a discount. So ask a friend or spouse to join you and get ready for a great time! All student graduates qualify for membership in the Upper Minnetonka Yacht Club at a discounted rate. UMYC has great social events and is known as ‘The friendliest yacht club in the mid-west.” “Race your own Boat” is a program tailored specifically to you. Whether you have a boat already or not, an Upper Minnetonka Yacht Club Member will mentor you through what you need to feel comfortable entering the exciting sport of sailboat racing. No matter what support you desire: selecting a boat, improving your sailing skills, leaning the basic rules of sailboat racing, or simply feeling comfortable on the course, your coach will help you make it happen. It is a great follow-up to our Learn to Sail program. Your personal coach will support your entry into a great life-long sport and introduce you to the fun-loving group of sailor on Upper Minnetonka. This program includes 12 hours of instruction, scheduled between you and your coach. This course requires that you have a boat that you are able to sail on Upper Minnetonka. “MC Clinics” are for UMYC members that want to get to the next level of competitive sailing. These weekly sessions are led by the top sailors in the fleet. All aspects of racing are covered but instruction is peer based and tailored to each participant. The exercises and insight provide through these sessions becomes instantly obvious in your very next race. As the 2007 leader Scott Colesworthy noted, “Guys that consistently were participating in the clinics were all of a sudden coming from no where to challenge for the gun.” As a fleet the results were also evident in a 1, 2, 3, 5 finish at the Die-Hard regatta.
