What a busy Summer!
Well it's been a busy Summer so far, so I thought I'd get everyone up to date with the latest news.
In early July, several MCs went down to Okoboji for the ILYA MC Invitational Regatta, and we did pretty well, in my opinion. Mark Christensen took the top slot, I took 7th, Dave Abramson was 8th, and John Grzybek pulling a 29th.
The MC fleet just returned from the Inter-Lakes Regatta at Clear Lake Iowa. There our team slipped to 3rd place with Team Clear Lake beating Team Lake Harriet by 1 whole point. As for individual finishes, Dave Abramson sailed a very consistent regatta netting a 2nd overall. I took 3rd, Scott Colesworthy finished 16th in a borrowed boat, Keith Morical held on for 20th, and John Grzybek holding on for 27th. Many of these MC sailors will be going to the ILYA MC Inland Championship Regatta at Pewaukee WI and the end of this week.
As for lake racing, it's been a crazy year with regards to wind. In the 38 years I've been sailing, I don't think I've seen so many races canceled for either no wind or too much wind in a summer. As a compensating factor, having a whole-lake no-wake zone has been a blessing, with billiard-table smooth water. Many of us were praying for rain, to keep the lake above 930.11, but to no avail. Oh well...
On the social scene, the MC and PHRF fleets hosted parties that didn't quite break the “Wild and Crazy” barrier, but came close. If you missed the last Friday Night BBQ, you really did miss a good one as Mary-Kay Grzybek's Hot Dago Sandwiches were “to die for”!
Due to the bulk of the MC fleet being gone to a regatta, we have decided to cancel Friday's Moonlight race. We attempted to re-schedule, but there were too many conflicts. Keep an eye out for this always-fun event next year.
And don't forget: The Amazing E-Babe race and Party Saturday August 30th!
Well that's all I can think about for now, I'll shoot out another update after the Inlands!
